Johann Sebastian Bach was not only renowned as a virtuoso and composer, but also as a formative teacher. During his time as Thomaskantor in Leipzig, he taught not only his own children—four of whom became successful composers—but also many students who carried his musical ideas forward.

The organ trio sonatas were likely written as demanding study material for his eldest son, Wilhelm Friedemann. Some of the themes are borrowed from earlier works or later reused in different contexts—a creative handling of musical material that was typical of Bach.

This concert places Bach’s organ trio sonatas at its center, framed by works from his sons and students. We embrace the idea of musical "recycling" and present the music in an unusual instrumentation—in the spirit of Bach, who constantly combined tradition with innovation.
